Infectious Disease

Treating infection is the main focus of the MeritCare Infectious Disease department, but the types, treatments and diagnoses vary widely. Infectious disease results from the presence of pathogenic microbial agents, such as viruses, bacteria or parasites. Not everyone exposed to an infection will contract it; unfortunately, it's often unknown why.

CARE

Treatments

This department treats patients with fevers of unknown origin and other infections. They also provide follow-up care to people hospitalized with an infection who continue IV treatments at home. For an infection, the physician will take a complete history from the patient, look at lab cultures and review films and research in order to identify the infection and the best treatment during that initial patient visit.
