Allergy & Immunology

Sneezing, sniffling, watery eyes — any of these symptoms might lead you to the Allergy Department. Allergies are abnormal immune system reactions to things that are typically harmless to most people, such as certain foods, dust or pollen. In rare cases, an allergic reaction can become severe. Allergy and Pulmonary Medicine work closely together.

CARE

Common Procedures

For allergy sufferers, a first visit may involve a skin test to determine the cause of the allergic reaction. During a skin test, several kinds of common allergens are applied to a person's back to see which (if any) cause an allergic reaction. Another common procedure is a pulmonary function test (PFT) to determine lung health and capacity.
