Preparing For Your First Appointment

At the first appointment, it's very important that a family member or loved one accompany the person who will be evaluated. This contributes greatly to our understanding of the situation. After visiting with you and learning more, we will proceed to the next step: a thorough diagnostic workup. An evaluation varies depending on the needs of the person, but a typical evaluation will include:

  • A physical (if the person hasn't had one recently)
  • A review of all medications (please bring your medications with you)
  • A neurological exam
  • CT (computed tomography) scan
  • Lab work

For more complicated situations, a more rigorous testing process may be needed. Always, respect and consideration for the patient ranks high. Typically, the first appointment will last between one and two hours.

Do your part by bringing along all over-the-counter as well as prescription medications and a list of past and current medical problems. We will send a packet of materials including checklists to help you thoroughly prepare for your first appointment.
