Treatment Options for Kidney Failure Class

Options training is designed to educate patients and their families about kidney disease and their options for treatment. The goal of this education is to increase their confidence in making an informed decision regarding the treatment of their kidney failure. This class is designed for the patient who expects to begin dialysis within 6 to 12 months. Class attendance is designed to provide to the following:

  • Skills

    The ability to make an informed decision about treatment for kidney failure based on the education received

  • Knowledge

    • Treatment options which include hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, transplant or no treatment
    • Features and considerations regarding each treatment option
    • Tour of the dialysis unit and hands on experience with dialysis supplies
  • Attitudes

    • Decrease anxiety about future treatment
    • Increased confidence in own ability to make an informed decision
