MeritCare Speed Strength

MeritCare's Speed Strength is a must for any serious athlete who wants to take it to the next level in athletic performance. Rory Beil has acquired the knowledge in the sport sciences that it takes and has applied that to his coaching and sport enhancement programs. This is what sets apart the Speed Strength program from others!

MeritCare has served as an excellent training facility for us. They offer specialized programs to fit the needs of each athlete and their trainers add a personal touch by staying involved with the kids throughout the program. We really appreciate the personalized attention we get; it makes the program that much more enjoyable.

MeritCare Speed Strength is a program that I would recommend to parents for their athletic kids. The staff at MeritCare tailors the workouts for each individual pending his or her sport or physical needs. I have seen first hand as a parent and coach the positive impact of this sports' specific training program for student - athletes. It has been refreshing to not only see the improvements in their speed and strength, but also the increased confidence level of our kids when they take the court!"

With all of the choices available to parents and coaches of athletes in the F-M area, when looking for a place to send their kids to increase their athletic performance, I personally recommend Rory and his staff at MeritCare Sports Medicine. I spent a year at their facilities and I was very impressed with their knowledge base on exercise physiology and their willingness to work with different kinds of athletes. I was trained like a professional offensive linemen and I witnessed other athletes of all ages, sports and abilities trained for what they were going to be competing in.

My sister was the 2005 US Olympic trials competition manager and one of five coaches chosen in the country to coach the US indoor national team at the World Track and Field Championships in Moscow. Both she and other elite performance specialists I deal with believe MeritCare's Speed Strength program is second to none in this area. I highly recommend this program to anyone trying to maximize their God given abilities.

The Merit Care Sports Medicine Speed Strength program provides excellent instruction and an excellent environment for athletes looking to gain a step on their competition. Many of the training principles we use at North Dakota State University are adopted from the same model used at Merit Care Sports Medicine. I am grateful for the advice and coaching instruction that Rory Beil has provided our program.

"My daughter attended three summer and three preseason (high school track) sessions at MeritCare Sports Medicine, specifically their Speed Strength Program. This program was extremely beneficial for her. She saw improvements in her overall strength and speed, and she was able to see that improvement everyday, by the detailed progress charts that each athlete keeps. My daughter found that tiny goals turn into big dreams…she holds two State Track Titles in North Dakota."

Lifelong Fitness (exercise and fitness)

I have been a member at MeritCare Southpointe since it opened its doors. My trips to Mt. Everest and other high places would not have been possible without the professional trainers and state-of-the-art equipment at the Southpointe Lifelong Fitness Center. Oh, and by the way, I have spent numerous hours rehabbing from various operations/injuries there also and the PT staff is super.

Before signing up in August 2004, my workout regime was next to nonexistent. As I approached my fiftieth birthday, I felt I needed a program that was more structured and included cardiovascular as well as weight training. I've been sticking with my 3-day-a-week regime. I'm happy to say that my weight is where I want it, I'm toned, feel healthy and as an additional benefit, have been able to discontinue the use of long-term antidepressant medication.

The exercise program given to me from my personal trainer at MeritCare's Southpointe has provided me with a more youthful, energetic outlet in all daily activities. For the past six years it has been a wonderful place to start my day. I should have begun the program much earlier, but I have learned it is really never too late to start something new. I am now in better health and overall am more physically fit than I have been through most of my adult life.

Richard Olafson, MD retired

Simply stated the exercise program at MeritCare has changed my life and has now become a way of life. Their guidance and advice regarding proper exercise is superb. The equipment and space is clean and well maintained at Southpointe and BHC. In addition to the important physical health benefits regular exercise provides for us, the additional benefit of friendships that have developed among the exercise participant and the motivation that is given to each other is also quite remarkable.

Stephen Tinguely, MD

MeritCare Southpointe is the most non-intimidating place to come and work out at. I see the young, old, athletes, people like myself (and everyone in-between) all there working on making their body healthy. The personal trainers are wonderful, personable, encouraging, flexible, and work with your goals! Put a super exclamation mark there! I have recommended MeritCare to many of my friends and co-workers as the best place to work out at - no matter what level you are at.

I am very impressed with the facilities and the people at MeritCare's Southpointe Sports Physiology Center. The personal trainers are very professional and go out of their way to be helpful. I have had memberships at other Health Clubs over the years with access to personal trainers that pale in comparison. I became involved with Southpointe Exercise Physiology as part of the Healthy Lifestyle Program offered by my employer. Under their guidance, which included looking over food logs, I was able to lose 50 lbs over the first three months.

I heard from a friend, about the MeritCare SouthPointe Exercise Physiology program 5 years ago. I have been a regular there ever since. I felt it was important that I had a physiologist who understood my physical limitations as a younger person who had undergone surgery for a total knee replacement. I have been so fortunate to have a knowledgeable, fun loving, creative person as my exercise mentor.

Jane Hella

I'm always telling people to come try "my" gym. Anyone would feel comfortable at MeritCare because you don't have to be young or already fit. You can start wherever you are and get fitter at your own pace. I've been training with Randy for about five years. He can't make the workouts easy, but he has made them fun.

Donna Orr

Self-directed exercise can be a good thing if you do it; with a personal trainer I have more motivation to show up at the gym and I find Charlotte takes it to the next level, we do exercises and workouts that just wouldn't happen if I were on my own. The facility and staff at Southpointe MeritCare Sports Medicine are great.

Georgia Dawson

About 6 years ago, I fell and tore some ligaments in my foot and ankle which took quite a long time to heal followed by therapy. I then signed up for the senior program to work out on the machines on three days a week and also take classes on the other two weekdays that provided more balance, stretching and ways to relax. The leaders of the classes are so helpful and accommodating about how and what to do that is good for each one individually. It has now become a way of life, and something is missing in my day, if I skip my workout here at MeritCare.

Rhonda Lybeck

I work out three times a week at Southpointe. I chose this facility for the well-trained, unfailingly pleasant and kind staff. I appreciate the cleanliness of the facility and the excellent exercise equipment. The other clients I meet are diverse and dedicated to fitness. Most important to me, as I develop aches and pains, the exercise physiologists help me through the difficulty. I have maintained a fairly high degree of fitness and very high energy, partly due to the regular workouts at this fine facility.

Margie

At first glance you will see a first class facility, with top of the line equipment, and you might think this is what separates Merit Care from other facilities. However, it is the people who work at Merit Care that create an environment which will inspire you to challenge yourself with every work out.

I have really enjoyed my experience at Merit Care and I have significantly increased the variety of exercises which I perform in my work out schedule!

Enjoy the Gym!

Michael Storey

Whether you are an out-of-shape beginner (as I was when I first joined Southpointe seven years ago) or regular exerciser looking for a challenge (as I was three years later, training for my first marathon), the staff at MeritCare Sports Medicine provide motivation, expertise, and individualized programming to meet their clients' needs. The facilities are great - large, open workout areas, excellent variety of well-maintained equipment, and immaculate (!) locker rooms - but it is the personalized support and guidance offered by the staff at MeritCare that sets them apart from the rest!

Jane Kelly

Fargo-Moorhead has an abundance of good fitness centers. I chose to spend my gym time at MeritCare due to the convenience of their North Broadway gym and the ease of using the Southpointe location. In addition to being convenient, the MeritCare equipment meets my needs and the gym feels comfortable to me. The people who exercise at MeritCare vary in age and level of fitness, most are very friendly, and no one seems to be showing off. MeritCare offers a great option to anyone looking to get better fit. I recommend MeritCare highly.

Matthew Mohr

I have been a member of the club for the past four years. It did not take long for me to discover that the "misery-loves-company" adage was soon replaced in my mind to "company-enjoys-exercise". Over the years at MeritCare, I have become very good friends with many folks as a result of our "working for fitness" on a regular basis. There is certainly a psychological impetus to exercise frequently, if not daily, because one experiences a feeling of personal guilt when asked by a friend, "Hey, we missed you yesterday". I hope that never changes.

An exercise program planned for me at MeritCare Health Center has made it possible for me to improve quality of life in several ways:

  1. has eased back pain
  2. has helped keep my knee pain free
  3. has increased strength and energy so that I can participate and enjoy more social activities.

My sincere thanks to the physical therapists who have assisted me in reaching (at my age) a moving and comfortable life style.

Group Exercise (yoga, spinning, etc.)

The spinning class is a great workout. The classes are offered early enough that I am able to get a workout in before my day begins.

Jenny Aune

I enjoy the organized fitness classes. They give me the opportunity to do strength and aerobic exercises I would not do otherwise. They are well run classes.

Gary Klein

I have been in the active older adults program for the last seven years. It helps me to feel better both physically and mentally. The people in the program are just great and fun to be with. It has been very worthwhile for me.
