The Life and Times of Alfunz
I was born in the mountains past the Willow Windmill. My mother is a Pika and my father is a Dormouse… so I'm kind of a Peeka-Door, but I just like to think of myself as tan and fuzzy. I don't really know how old I am or even when my birthday is because I was too little to notice when I was born. But I make it a point to have a birthday pretty often, so I don't miss it. I came here to the Village of Laffalot when the Aldenbarker Tree was three branches tall.
I've always liked building thingsā¦and I like to read a lot. That's how I became an Architect of Anything. There wasn't a school to learn that — I just read everything I could and spent a lot of time helping friends who have been around longer and knew more than me.
My first project was building my adobe cottage at the base of the Alderbarker Tree. Since then I've been busy building lots of things for my friends — from Chippy's Cookie Cart to Vole's Violin String Stretcher. My favorite project was the Willow Windmill — which took a long time and help of some very tall friends.
I talk to the nurses and doctors a lot and work with them to build things that help kids feel better. You might see some of the things I helped build around the Children's Hospital here at MeritCare.
I like to watch the sun rise, visit friends, read, play with Lola — my pet ladybug, smell flowers — especially when they first pop up in the spring. I like to go on hikes and adventures to places I haven't been before. My favorite games are Mancala, Hide-and-Seek and all types of card games. I also have been practicing a few card tricks.
I might be traveling somewhere in the world — building special projects, visiting friends or family — and taking an adventure somewhere I've never been before just for the fun of it. When I am home, I'm usually reading or working on a project and get so involved in what I'm doing, I lose track of time and don't hear what's going on outside. That's why I love when friends write me letters — because I know they are thinking about me and I love writing back so they know I am thinking about them too.
