Children's Cancer

MeritCare Children's partners with the MeritCare Roger Maris Cancer Center to specialize in the care of children with cancer. Unlike adults, childhood cancer isn't typically related to environmental factors such as smoking, diet, occupation or exposure to cancer-causing materials. Working closely with the Cancer Center, MeritCare specialists diagnose and treat the following cancers:

New treatments have improved outcomes for babies, children and teens with cancer. With the expertise of the MeritCare team, which includes a board-certified pediatric oncologist and many pediatricians, children with cancer receive the best treatment available.

Children's Oncology Group Member

MeritCare is a proud member of the Children's Oncology Group. This means that MeritCare meets the general criteria and guidelines for pediatric cancer centers established and published by the Section on Hematology-Oncology of the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Society of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology. The Children's Oncology Group collaboratively develops guidelines for cancer care for children. This ensures the best practices at top cancer centers across the nation, such as Eugenio Litta Children's Hospital at Mayo Clinic, University of Minnesota Children's Hospital and Children's Hospital of Iowa are always being used at MeritCare. MeritCare Children's Hemophilia and Thrombosis Treatment Program

The needs of children with hemophilia, thrombosis or other blood disorders are different from adults. MeritCare has a cancer and blood disorders specialist who diagnoses and treats babies, children and teens with cancer and blood disorders such as:

MeritCare Hemophilia and Thrombosis Treatment Center

The only center of this type in the state, the North Dakota Hemophilia and Thrombosis Treatment Center provides comprehensive care for people who have hemophilia, von Willebrand's disease and many other types of bleeding and clotting disorders. Using a team approach, professionals work together to provide evaluations, recommendations, treatment plans and follow-up care. The Hemophilia and Thrombosis Treatment Center also offers a variety of services including assistance with clotting factors and home therapy.
