The Joint Commission
The Joint Commission is an independent non-profit organization that focuses on health care safety, quality and performance improvement. It is the nation's oldest and largest organization of its kind. The Joint Commission's accreditations and related services have elevated standards and care throughout the industry. Thousands of health care organizations, programs, health plans, delivery networks and managed care organizations are evaluated and accredited by The Joint Commission. It is governed by a board that includes physicians, nurses and consumers.

The Joint Commission evaluates the quality and safety of more than 15,000 health care organizations. It conducts extensive on-site reviews of health organizations a minimum of every three years. The Joint Commission's team reviews the organization's performance in dozens of care areas. It awards accreditation to the organizations that meet or surpass Joint Commission standards.
