Support Services
Diabetes can present special stresses, demands, and concerns not just for you, but for your family and friends, too. Support services are available to help you and those close to you deal with these stresses.
Counseling Services
Adjusting to diabetes is ongoing and often challenging. You may experience a wide range of emotions from anger ("Why me?") to relief ("Thank goodness it can be managed..."). These emotions all serve a purpose and can be healthy and useful. Sometimes, however, emotions can become a problem, interfering in the delicate balance between enjoying life and managing diabetes.
Professional counseling may be the key to restoring balance. Counseling is available for both you and your family. If you would like to talk with a counselor, please let us know and we will assist you in making an appointment.
Diabetes Support Group
Discussing problems, ideas, and concerns with people who have "traveled the road you are traveling" can be very helpful. For that reason, diabetes support groups are offered.
Guided by a professional facilitator, an adult support group meets on a regular basis to provide emotional support and discuss educational topics as determined by participants. Significant others and family members are also invited to attend.
Special Events
Special activities are planned throughout the year for you and your family. Please call the MeritCare Diabetes Center or view upcoming
