Educational Services

Education is crucial in helping you control your diabetes . . . rather than having your diabetes control you. Offering classes for adults, adolescents and children, we take the time to help you identify your needs, then plan your diabetes education to meet those needs. We offer the following educational opportunities:

Survival Skills

If you have recently been diagnosed with diabetes, the first thing you will need to learn are survival skills—in other words, how to live with diabetes. Survival skills include administering insulin, planning meals, monitoring blood sugar, caring for your skin and feet and a basic understanding of diabetes. These skills are taught on a one-on-one basis.

Ongoing Self-Management

If you have had diabetes for a period of time and want to review, update and/or improve your quality of life, "Ongoing Self-Management" will likely meet your needs. Management techniques may include how to eat when you're away from home traveling, what to do when you're sick, insulin adjustment and exercising safely. Sessions are offered either in a group setting or one-on-one.

Nutritional Management

Nutrition is the cornerstone of diabetes management, and for that reason, it's important to understand how meal planning can help you successfully manage diabetes.

One of our dietitians is available to meet with you individually to help establish a meal plan to best meet your needs. We suggest, too, that you see a dietitian regularly for follow-up.
