da Vinci ® Surgical System

The da Vinci ® Surgical System provides surgeons with an alternative to both traditional open surgery and conventional laparoscopy, putting surgeon's hands at the controls of a state-of-the-art robotic platform. The da Vinci ® System enables surgeons to perform even the most complex and delicate surgery procedures through very small incisions with unmatched precision.

How is the Surgery Done?

Using the da Vinci ® Surgical System, the surgeon operates while seated at a console a few feet away from the patient. Using a high-powered camera, the surgeon is able to view a 3D image of the surgical field. The surgeon grasps the master controls and guides the arms of the robot that holds surgical tools which are inserted into the patient through small, keyhole-sized incisions. da Vinci seamlessly translates the surgeon's hand, wrist and finger movements into precise, real-time movements of surgical instruments inside the patient.
