Internship Program Outline

This 16 week program will teach interns the responsibilities required of a marketing professional.

Day 1: Orientation: What MeritCare is all about, the culture, our mission, vision, and PVEs (principles, values and ethics), HIPAA video/training, meet the other marketing people, includes facility tour.

Experiences

Interns should indicate the kind of experience they seek. We offer several options.

General

Rather than pursue a deep dive into one particular area, select a general internship if you wish to experience some of everything. You may experience a mix of all marketing channels, including marketing communication plans, web maintenance, creative concepting, copywriting, media relations, project tracking, distribution and mailing.

Graphic Design

An internship in graphic design with the marketing creative team would allow you the opportunity to be involved in the process of creating communication materials for a large and diverse corporation. From research and concepting to execution of design, you will take part in what is needed to develop advertising campaigns and collateral materials that successfully reach target audiences, both internally and in the public.

Marketing Strategy

Interns will be able to work with clients and see firsthand the process of developing a marketing communication plan. This includes identifying appropriate strategies, tactics and metrics for achieving client goals. You will interact with clients and other marketing service channels from goal setting through the launch of a campaign.

Market Research

A market research intern will provide market data expertise through comprehensive information gathering and analysis of primary and secondary research. That research will identify implications, risks, conclusions, and recommendations needed for the development of effective and measurable marketing strategies. The intelligence you gather from our research will support strategic development personnel and MeritCare management.

Media

This channel works as the gateway between news media and MeritCare staff and patients. Interns get experience in writing news releases and fact sheets, assisting with news conferences and learning to distinguish the benefits of different media tactics. They will also gain knowledge of best practices when working with the news media.

Wayfinding

As an intern for wayfinding, you will help patients and visitors navigate our facilities. Experiences may include completing a wayfinding audit, assisting with patient flow from one area to another and reviewing/revising various wayfinding materials for patients. You may also help select artwork for new or remodeled areas.

Web

A Web internship provides experiences in writing Web content, learning maintenance functions, creating online birth announcements (BassiNet), conducting Web site research and participating in service area projects for the Web. The Internship provides a basic understanding of Web site architecture and the various strategies used in Web development.
