Community Connections Programs

Community Connections is one way Sanford gives back to the community. The program was organized after Sanford's board and employees met with area clergy, service providers, educators and business people to learn more about issues facing the community. Out of these discussions, three consistent topics arose — parish nursing, area youth, and people coping day-to-day with chronic health conditions. These ideas were established as priorities for Sanford's Community Connections program.

Adopt a School

The goal of the Adopt-a-School Program is to help youth form healthy habits that will benefit them physically, mentally, and emotionally throughout their lives. The partnership began between Sanford and Roosevelt Elementary School in 1999. Through this partnership, Sanford professionals connect with teachers and students on a variety of levels – from mentoring and reading in the classrooms to providing wellness and safety programs.

Living Well Workshops

Sanford's offers the Living Well Workshops to help people take small manageable steps towards positive changes and a healthier lifestyle. Because the workshop is not about specific diseases, people with different ongoing health problems attend together to learn general skills for better health. Sanford offers this proven program free of charge as part of our Community Benefit Initiatives.

Youth Medical Experience

The Youth Medical Experience Program, sponsored by Sanford Health, provides high school juniors and seniors to explore careers in health care. Sanford professionals direct the program, volunteer their time and talent to mentor students and share their expertise.

Parish Nurse Program

Sanford Parish Nurse Program provides support and resources to Parish Nurses (Faith Community Nurses), including financial support and/or technical support, education, networking opportunities and educational materials. Parish nurses address the spiritual, emotional and physical needs while bringing whole person health to their faith community members. Resources are available to assist faith communities in getting their program started.
