MeritCare’s Priorities Address the Identified Unmet Needs of Our Communities
Did you know that we have 55,000 unique patients with heart disease within our system, and that depression is one of the top health issues for members of our communities?
MeritCare’s Office of Mission and Community Benefit recently conducted a community health assessment to identify the unmet needs of the communities within our service area. The 2008 Community Health Needs Assessment helped us in identifying those unmet needs within our communities. We have defined the following top five priorities as follows:
- Disease Management
- Mental Health
- Childhood Obesity
- Family Health Care Center
- Aging Services
Many organizations have needs and often request help from MeritCare, however we must prioritize those needs based on the above focus areas. We actively participate in the United Way, the American Heart Association, The American Diabetes Association, the Asthma Walk through the American Lung Association, and other organization that are aligned with our identified areas of focus.
There are numerous organizations and worthwhile causes that request our support. Although the requests come from areas of need within our communities, we have prioritized the areas of unmet needs and we direct our support to meet the top five identified priorities.
