United Way Campaign

Since the mission of United Way is similar to MeritCare's and their efforts make such an important contribution to the lives of people in the communities we serve, it is the only agency, other than the MeritCare Foundation, that MeritCare supports through system-wide fundraising. In 2004, MeritCare received the Frederick W. Donath Campaign Award of Excellence, the United Way's highest honor.

In addition to their contributions, MeritCare associates also donate time to two community service projects sponsored by United Way:

• Community school supply drive, packing donated supplies into backpacks in preparation for distribution to area children in need.
• Day of Caring, an event developed to engage community businesses and their employees in local volunteer opportunities with area senior citizens who need the help and companionship for a day.
