MeritCare is committed to excellence by providing the highest quality care for the region. This philosophy is what drives the MeritCare stroke team to work towards the highest quality stroke care.

Quality efforts include focusing on stroke care throughout the health care continuum: emergency services, acute inpatient, rehabilitation and discharge support including home health care.

Patient education and community outreach also are imperative, whereby MeritCare is committed to promoting stroke prevention at all levels and by providing "Brain Attack" education.

CARE

Becoming a Primary Stroke Center

MeritCare is currently planning to improve and maintain a strong stroke program by achieving certification as a Joint Commission Primary Stroke Center (PSC). This designation is a national recognition of achievement and represents the "highest level of recognition achievable by a health care provider." It is a measure of a health system's ability to effectively use clinical practice guidelines and to continually measure and improve stroke care. Currently, there are no Primary Stroke Centers in North Dakota.
