MeritCare Transplant Services

At MeritCare Transplant Services, you'll receive one-on-one care at a single facility during all stages–from pre-transplant evaluation to post-transplant follow-up. There will be many people involved in a single transplant, but our entire transplant team has one common goal: a successful transplant for you.

MeritCare Kidney Transplant Program

Founded in 1989 as Transplant Services of Fargo, MeritCare Transplant Services has performed over 500 organ transplants. We offer both deceased and living donor renal transplants to patients with end-stage renal disease.

MeritCare Pancreas Transplant Program

MeritCare Transplant Services implemented pancreas transplants in 2001. We've had great success with our diabetic patients having the opportunity to live life insulin-free. We offer pancreas transplants to our patients for one of three reasons:

Diabetics with kidney failure in need of a kidney and pancreas transplant. This procedure is referred to as simultaneous pancreas and kidney (SPK).
People with diabetes who received a kidney transplant in the past and now need a pancreas transplant to improve blood sugar control and prevent further diabetic complications, including damage to the transplanted kidney. This procedure is referred to as pancreas after kidney (PAK).
Diabetics who have early or no kidney disease but need a pancreas to improve severe complications from blood sugar control and/or prevent the progression of diabetic complications, including kidney disease. This procedure is referred to as pancreas transplant alone (PTA).
